Mateja de Leonni Stanonik, BA, BSc, MA, MD, PhD, grew up in Slovenia, formerly Yugoslavia. As a teenager she decided to study brain function in the United States. Fascinated by the capabilities of the human brain, she was determined to explore cognitive and affective functions and learn from the American experts who were developing the relatively new branch of science called Neuroscience. While in the United States, she completed her undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology (BSc.), as well as in German and Political Science (B.A.). She went on to obtain her Master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology and Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in Neuroscience. In addition, she completed her M.D. degree and Postdoctoral studies in Neuroradiology.
Dr. de Leonni also completed her residency in Neurology at George Washington University and went further to train in various subspecialties of neurology and neurosurgery. During this time, she had saw pediatric populations of patients in certain areas of Neurology/Neuropsychiatry/
Dr. de Leonni Stanonik is licensed to practice medicine and perform procedures in many countries around the world.
Dr. de Leonni Stanonik has also served previously as the Hon. Consult from the Republic of Slovenia to the United States, the VP of the Slovene World Congress and former Surgeon General of the Republic of Slovenia.
Dr. de Leonni Stanonik is very passionate about preserving brain health well into the golden years of life which allows one to keep the quality of life. Many cognitive decline preventative strategies are employed in her treatment recommendations.
